Prayers: (Aug 18, 2013)

Prayer of Confession

Leader:
Even when the daylight is gone,
And the darkness of the night has come,
We dare not kindle the light in our hearts.

People:

After a night of grief and despair,
Weary bruised, aching and forlorn,
We don’t rise up from our bed.

Leader:
Crouching in our own deep cave of grief and loss,
We don’t try the new ways we need to live love into the world.

People:
Frustrated with the reality and the condition of our own life,
We aren’t compelled to look at the debilitating realities of others.

Being steeped in our desires for comfort, security and satiety,
We don’t go straight out to meet our neighbours far and near,
and hold their hands.

Leader:
Holding hands may be initially merely a gesture to them,
But we believe it can kindle a fragile hope,
shared in our broken world,
adding more light.

All:
God of love, may this place be where we enlighten with hope.
May we build a place, a space into which all can be invited
And struggle together toward true humanity blossoming.
Assurance of God’s Encompassing Love
As a questing community of Christ, we seek true humanity to blossom in our hearts and on the road we walk together,
more than we seek security.
The Gospel of Jesus urges us to get up off our mat, ignite our compassion, and seek to find all the crucial ways to live love, justice and peace into the world, and into our own lives.
God’s encircling love ignites the fire of love and new hope in our hearts, in our speeches, in our activities.
In today’s Gospel, Jesus says, “I came to bring fire to the earth, and how I wish it were already kindled!”
Jesus brings fire, not false peace, into us and among us, so that we can be agents of a new creation.
In God's encompassing love, in whom no one is left behind, we are the new creation; we can be and should be creative and life-sharing.

Let us give thanks to the spirit of God who makes us whole and instills the God’s creative spirit in us. (Thanks be to God.)

May the life-giving love and the true peace of Christ be with you, make you whole and strengthen you to move forward. (And also with you.)
